Knee joint is a very important joint of our body, it enables us to do the daily tasks like walking, standing and climbing stairs. Physiotherapy for Knee pain helps to maintain the mobility and stability of joint. Knee joint comprises of three bones are;

  • the femur bone also called as the thigh bone
  • the tibia bone also called as the shin bone
  • the patella bone also called as the kneecap bone
Physiotherapy for Knee Pain

All three bones have a different articular surface. Capsules, Ligaments, Meniscus and Muscles are the supporting system for the joint. The knee cartilage is complex and made of elastic compressive structure. There are 2 cc of synovial fluid inside the knee that helps in the motion and lubrication of the joint. The function of the knee joint is to provide the mobility and stability.

Causes of Knee pain

Aging is the most common cause of knee pain. Other are;

  • Tightness and Weakness of the Thigh Muscles

Exercises for Knee Pain

Straight Leg Raises:

Straight Leg Raises:

Lie down flat on your back. Bend one knee and keep your foot flat on the floor. Raise your other leg flat and straight to the height of opposite knee. Hold it for 5 seconds. Come back to starting position.

Hamstring Curls:

Lie down flat on your stomach. Keep your legs together and guide your heels towards hip. Hold it for 3 to 5 seconds. Come back to starting position.

Quadriceps Stretch:

Stand facing the wall for support. Bend your knee, your foot takes towards your glutes. Hold your ankle with your hand and slowly pull up . Return back to starting position.

Hamstring Stretch:

Lie down flat on the back. Raise one leg and put your hands at the back of your thigh. Slowly pull your knee towards your chest and feel a stretch. Hold it for 5 second. Come back to starting position.

Leg Extension:

Sit in a chair and keep your feet on the floor. Raise one leg as high as possible without raising your buttocks of the chair. Hold it for 3 to 5 seconds. Come back to starting position.

Calf Raises:

Calf Raises:

Stand straight in-front of wall for support. Raise both your heels means that standing on the balls of your feet. Hold it for 5 seconds. Come back to starting position.
